Emilia Clarke Skincare – Blondes have more fun, or do they? Emilia Clarke is an expert at being both blonde and brunette (and at having fun!). Currently she’s enjoying trying out her natural brunette look but she’s also spent a great deal of time being blonde. A peroxide blonde in her own words, which looks fantastic on the set of Game of Thrones, but does have a tendency to kill natural shine. We also think she has more of a ‘brunette’s complexion’ too although, blonde or brunette, Emilia is renowned for her naturally dewy glowing skin. And her eyebrows!
Even though she’s been blessed with naturally good skin, Emilia takes its care seriously. That’s undoubtedly why she can comfortably make bold statements like “It’s a powerful point of view when you know you don’t need anything to enhance your natural beauty.” She’s right. If you take care of it well, and you’re fortunate enough to have naturally good skin to start out with, everything else seems to fall into place. Certainly that seems to have been the case for Emilia, although she does admit to having several skincare rules she never breaks.
Rule number 1 is that the Emilia Clarke skincare routine always involves taking off the day’s make up before going to bed. She does this religiously, regardless of what condition she may be in by the time bedtime comes around. Rule number 2 is that after removing the makeup, she cleanses, tones and moisturizes. Every single night.
The routine is firmly in line with her philosophy that good skin is essentially about keeping it clean and well hydrated. To help do this she recommends drinking plenty of water, having the occasional exfoliation, using a good moisturizer, and laughing. This last point is important. It’s in keeping with another of her philosophies about looking good, which is that being happy is the best tonic for natural beauty. That she is able to follow her own advice here is certainly testament to her strength of character given that she’s had 2 lots of surgery for brain aneurysms.
When it comes to makeup, Emilia prefers the classic look espoused by beauties of the past. Think Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, and Audrey Hepburn. She also loves a bold lip in tones of red, and has the features to carry it off to perfection. The exact shade of red varies depending on whether she happens to be blonde or brunette at the time. She uses a lighter red for the peroxide, and a darker bolder red with the brunette.
Emilia also likes to dramatically enhance her eyes, which she does by ‘piling’ on the mascara and using a liquid eyeliner. These, she claims, open up her eyes. We’re sure she means that figuratively rather than literally! She has two mascara favorites that she uses all the time, and frequently at the same time. One extends and separates her lashes, thus avoiding that horrid clumpy look. The other adds drama. Apart from these tools – the lip, mascara, and eyeliner, she uses very little else in her day-to-day life.
